What Are Trinkets in Stardew Valley?

How to Unlock Trinkets in Stardew Valley

You can only start collecting and using Trinkets after you have Mastered the Combat Skill at Mastery Cave.

Mastery Cave was another new addition to Stardew Valley in the 1.6 Update that allows you to Master certain skills after you have reached level 10 in Foraging, Fishing, Farming, Combat, and Mining. Once you have reached level 10 in all five skills, you can access Mastery Cave in Cindersap Forest.

Inside Mastery Cave, you will find five Skill Pillars. These are shrines to each of the skills that, once mastered, give you certain rewards. Mastering the Combat Skill Pillar gives you the ability to collect and use Trinkets.

See our Mastery Cave guide to find out more about how to Master skills and collect all the rewards!

How to Get Trinkets in Stardew Valley

After Mastering the Combat Skill in Mastery Cave, you will start being able to find Trinkets during your travels in the Mines, Skull Cavern, Volcano Dungeon, or anywhere you can find Monsters.

You can find Trinkets by defeating Monsters and inside chests and crates in Skull Cavern.

Any Monster can drop Trinkets, but if you're specifically looking for Trinkets, then Skull Cavern is where you should go to find them. The best way to find them is by killing monsters, but they are also found in Treasure Chests, Treasure Rooms, and random Crates throughout Skull Cavern. You can't find Trinkets in chests or crates in the Mines or Volcano Dungeon.

The only exception is the Magic Hair Gel, which you can purchase from Alex's Stall at the Desert Festival.

How to Use and Upgrade Trinkets in Stardew Valley

Once you get your hands on a Trinket, you can equip it by placing it in the Trinket slot in the equipment tab of the Menu. The equipment tab is the second one, and the Trinket slot is beside your Hat.

Placing a Trinket in that slot will automatically cause the Trinket to start working and offering you whatever effect it has. Some Trinkets, like the Parrot, Fairy, or Frog, will be obvious since they follow you around like pets. Others, like the Ice Rod or the Magic Quiver, won't start working until you are in active combat.

You can upgrade your Trinkets with an Anvil, which you also unlock when Mastering the Combat Skill in Mastery Cave.

You need 50x Iron Bars to craft an Anvil and 3x Iridium Bar to re-forge a Trinket. To re-forge your Trinket, put it in your bag, hold the item, and place it in the Anvil. After a few seconds, you will be able to retrieve your Trinket.

Re-forging a Trinket does different things depending on what Trinket you're working with. Placing the Magic Quiver, Ice Rod, Fairy Box, Golden Spur, and Parrot Egg in an Anvil will randomize it’s level, affecting the duration or strength of the Trinkets effect. Placing the Frog Egg in the Anvil will change the color of your Frog. You cannot place the Basilisk Paw or Magic Hair Gel in the Anvil.

Re-forging a Trinket will always produce a random result. This means your Trinket might end up worse than it was before. In that case, simply place it back in the Anvil to reforge as many times as you need until you are happy with your result.

You can continue collecting duplicates of Trinkets, but you cannot stack them. If you find you have a surplus of Trinkets, you can sell your extra ones at the Adventurer’s Guild!
